Stato di Siena. Siena: Matteo Florimi, [c.1600], engraved map of Southern Tuscany, 375 x 490mm. (crease along the fold.) with margins.
AN EXTREMELY RARE MAP OF SIENA and its surroundings, extending from Florence and Pisa in the North and Civitavecchia in the South, and taking in the peninsulas of Orbetello and Piombino along the coast. Arnoldi, an engraver employed by the noted Italian cartographer Magini, compiled a reduced version of the famous wall map by Petrus Plancius (1592). Matteo Florimi (fl. 1580-1612) was a publisher active in Siena, many of whose works appear in 'Lafreri' atlases.
