VENICE -- CORONELLI, VICENZO MARIA (1650-1718)
Città di Venetia. Venice: 1683. Etched and engraved plan of Venice on two sheets, overall 500 x 780mm. The Bird's eye view of the city set within a laurel branch border entwined with ribbon decorated with 86 medallions representing the cities of the Republic, two small cartouches bearing the title and dedication to Rezzonico. (Three small holes near upper margin, two small marginal tears.)
AN EARLY ISSUE OF CORONELLI'S VERY ATTRACTIVE PLAN OF VENICE modelled on the Merian plan of 1638, with the addition of the borders. This example is made up of a double-page sheet with a small 8cm extention to the right hand side of the sheet. Olschki Views of Venice, 74 does not record this issue, but lists a separately published version with the date corrected to 1693 on two sheets similarly arranged.
