Lot Essay

According to Professor Werner Sumowski, the present picture is a late work by the artist, comparable in style with Abraham parting from Lot in the Metropolitan Museum, New York and Diogenes looking for an honest man in the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg. With the latter it also shares the abundant display of fruits and vegetables, a recurring motive in Victor's oeuvre (see W. Sumowski, op.cit., p. 2614).
