by Louis Charonnat (fl. 1748-1780), marked, Paris, 1763/1764, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Octagonal box, the cover inset with a slightly domed panel of Indian-red lacquer adorned with an octagonal gold plaque chased with symbols of faithful love chased in four-colour gold on a sablé ground, the base inlaid with a bevelled Indian-red lacquer panel also mounted à jour, the four gold side walls chased with vases and urns of flowers on a matted ground within chevron borders surmounted by laurel swags and suspended with bows from laurel festoons, on a horizontally reeded ground, the four canted corners chased with frosted pilasters hung with ribbons and laurel
