A LOUIS XV GOLD-MOUNTED LACQUER CARNET-DE-BAL
by Charles-Barnabé Sageret (fl. 1752-1791), marked, Paris, 1767/1768, with the charge mark of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768 and the discharge mark of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, the flange struck with inventory number 70
Rectangular Japanese étui-à-tablettes, all sides inset with Japanese-style gold glitter lacquer panels within engraved gold cagework mounts, the sides of the hinged cover applied with gold inscription 'Voila ce qui men Reste' and 'Aquiloneo Respectés-le', both sides of the base set with glazed rectangular miniatures painted in sepia, one depicting an urn on a plinth flanked by two weeping willows, the other a growing bull rush in a foliate landscape, inside seven-leaved tablets with gold rivet (pencil missing)
