A LOUIS XV GOLD-MOUNTED LACQUER CARNET-DE-BAL SET WITH LACQUER PLAQUES
Paris, 1773/1774, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774
Slightly tapering rectangular étui-à-tablettes with arched top, of oblong section, all sides of cover and base of Burgau-lacquer within gold mounts stamped with ribbon-twist and flowers, obverse and reverse of the cover applied with pierced gold inscription 'SOUVENIR D'AMITIE' within pierced reeded gold borders with scroll cresting and laurel garlands, the obverse of the base centred with an oval lacquer plaque of chyrsanthemums, within a gold border stamped with flowers, scrolls and beckoning doves, the reverse with a similarly framed plaque of magnolia flowers
