Paris, 1778/1779, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, maker's mark badly struck, the miniature by François Dumont (1751-1831)
Rectangular étui-à-tablettes of shuttle-shaped section, inlaid overall with gold stripes on a dark composition ground, the gold mounts engraved with husks, the obverse and reverse of the cover applied with pierced gold inscription 'SOUVENIR D'AMITIE' within foliate scrolling border, the obverse of the base set with a glazed oval miniature of a lady with floral garland across her bodice and flowers in her upswept and powdered hair and the reverse of the base set with an oval enamel miniature of lovers in a landscape, inside gold-riveted three-leaved tablets and a gold-capped pencil
