Lot Essay

The attribution to Cavaliere d'Arpino was first proposed by Professor I.Q. van Regteren Altena. Drawings comparable in technique and subject are in the Fitzwilliam Museum, at Berlin and in a Roman private collection (H. Röttgen,Il Cavalier d'Arpino, Rome, 1973, nos. 72, 84, 123).
