RUSSIAN, DATED 9 APRIL 1904, UNRECORDED MAKER'S MARK A.M.I. IN CYRILLIC
The central panel depicting the Mandylion, flanked by Saints Sergei and Nicholas, the faces rendered with mild tones, the garments painted delicately with deeper colours, the silver haloes inscribed in blue enamel with the names of the depicted figures, within a frame decorated with stylized floral cloisonne enamel in pink, green and blues, surmounted by ogee shaped panels, the centre of the latter with painted blue enamel, the middle section with a cross, the wings closing to show sumptuous foliate designs, the reverse inscribed with the dedicatory inscription

The dedicatory inscription on the reverse reads: "Let the Saviour guard you through the prayers of great saints, always and everywhere and for many years ahead! To our dear, ever caring friend Sergei Petrovich Andreyev. Your friends, truthfully loving, thankful and mourning your departure."
