8o. Original publisher's terra cotta cloth, stamped in black and gilt (light rubbing and dust soiling); quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance: Alfred Domett (1811-1887), poet and friend of Browning (presentation inscription by Browning on half-title).
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY BROWNING TO HIS CLOSE FRIEND AND FELLOW POET ALFRED DOMETT on half-title: "Alfred Domett with all affectionate regrads from his old friend RB. Jan. 28. 87." Also with a small correction to dedication leaf. Domett was the subject of Browning's poem Waring: "He was prouder than the devil: /How he must have cursed our revel! Ay, and many other meetings, Indoor visits, outdoor greetings, As up and down he paced this London, With no work done, but great works undone, Where scarce twenty knew his name."
