Each set on a tapering cylindrical stem, the baluster-form body finely engraved in a foliage design and pierced with floral motifs, encircled by chains at middle section, topped by a crescent and star finial - 27 cm high (2)

Lot Essay

The style of these Rimmonim indicate that they originate from the Ottoman Empire. The Crescent and Star - incorporated into the design of the silver Rimmonim - is a typical Ottoman symbol which reveals the influence of the Islam. According to the consignor these Rimmonim were in use in the synagoge of Varna, on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria.
