A Victorian ebonised longcase regulator

The case with glazed front and sides above stepped plinth with fielded panel, the right side hinged and opening and the dial frame also opening, mirrored backboard extending behind the movement, with foliate carved apron below and conforming spandrels above silvered sight ring, 11½ in. diameter silvered and engraved dial of regulator format and signed J.W. BENSON, 25 OLD BOND ST, blued steel hands, the substantially built movement with five large double-screwed pillars, end-capped wheel train and wheels with six crossings, Vulliamy-type dead beat escapement with jewelled pallets, paintaining power, fine adjustment to the crutchpiece of the steel rod pendulum spring-suspended from the back plate on a brass bracket, glass mercury jar (mercury removed) and calibrated rating nut, swinging against a silvered and engraved beatscale raised on brass pillars; brass weight, case key
