A GERMAN INLAID CIRCULAR PEARWOOD POWDER-FLASK
Mid-17th Century
Made in two parts with a horn-lined hole at the centre, the body profusely inlaid with concentric patterns of brass wire and horn stringing, overlapping within the front and back panels, centering on a circular alternating pattern of horn and contrasting wooden roundels each in turn inlaid with a contrasting design, the whole scheme filled with concentric bands of horn pellets minutely inlaid with brass stars, minute brass nails and all on a ground sown with further pellets and nails, fitted with brass top and cap-lever each punched and engraved, turned horn nozzle, and two rings for suspension (small pieces of wire missing)
