Lot Essay

In his regard of the complexities of life, Agus has become a social activist through his art. His works are affected with connotations of the oppressed and other current affairs. Agus makes his art very personal, to the point of using himself as a model for his works. This personal involvement of the artist through his physical representation on the canvas makes his messages more real, it affords him a direct and more believable stake when imparting his opinion. In Agus's works, he strives to liberate daily stereotypes and empower the viewer with his knowledge.

The title of the work is as telling as it is potent. Making no pretense of his intended mockery on perceived elitisms and a profound self-criticism, the declaration of I am the most educated parasite informed its audience of the artist unabashed narratives. In this aspect, by posing himself as the subject in the work renders the painting an honesty and sincerity that are easily appreciated by the viewers thus drawing them closer to its predominant focus. The element of aesthetics is not any concern of Agus as he strives to bring across the message. The painterly manner in which the work is executed only served to enhanced the seriousness of the manner, provoking and disturbing its audience, almost urging them to go through the similar process of self-examination.

The protagonist squats awkwardly on the toilet seat, a most mundane and inelegant action that gives the subject a sense of absurdity and silliness, befitting the overtone of mockery, however it is such human elements that make the work believable and intimate to us, the viewers.
