A George III black and gilt-japanned longcase clock, circa 1770
The hood with giltwood finials, inset columns and glazed side panels, the trunk door decorated with chinoiserie designs (restorations), above part rebuilt plinth, the 12 in. wide brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperure, blued steel later hands, signed on a silvered disc in the arch John/Wilderspin/CAMBRIDGE, the eight day movement with anchor escapement and rack strike/trip repeat on bell; case possibly associated to dial and movement -- 95½ in. (242.5 cm.) high; pendulum, two weights, crank key
