All with foliate famille rose borders; the first octagonal, centering a landscape with a tree suspending a shield bearing the the arms of Clarke, a knight's helm resting against the trunk; the second an octagonal soup plate with arms of The Duke of Gloucester, the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE encircling the arms; the last with wavy rims, bearing the arms of Scott and the motto IN BONA EIDE ET VARITATE

Lot Essay

The second example is from a service was made for William Henry (1742-1805), third son of Frederick Lewis, Prince of Wales, son of King George II. He was created Duke of Gloucester in 1764. See D.S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, vol. I, p. 616.
