Lot Essay

The bust, portraying Lord Eldon as Chancellor, is signed by the sculptor, wax modeller and gem-engraver David Morrison (Morison) (d. c.1850). Morison was appointed 'miniature modeller' to the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Princess Augusta. He exhibited at the R.A. 1821-1850 showing mostly miniature medallic portraits and wax portraits. (R. Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors 1660 -1851, London, 1951 p.265; and E.J. Pyke, Dictionary of Wax Modellers, London, 1973, pp.94 and 95)
