Lot Essay

The marble-topped sideboard-table is designed in the George II antique fashion with Jupiter's eagle claws emerging from Roman acanthus-wrapped and scrolled trusses; while its frieze is wreathed by a bas-relief ribbon-guilloche relating to a Fret pattern in T. Chippendale's, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754 pl.192.
