Lot Essay

A pair of related Roman-medallion mirrors, crowned by Venus heads, clasped by shells and wreathed by reeds, were supplied in the mid eighteenth century for St. Giles House, Dorset (sold by the Earl of Shaftesbury at Christie's London, 26 June 1980, lot 55.)
