A Japanese ivory figure of a farmer and child, 19th century
the farmer carved with the right leg forward standing on a small mound with a peach beside it, holding a peach spray in his right hand and supporting a child on his back, the child with his right hand raised and the left holding onto the farmer's shoulder, both with their head turned to the left, wearing robes decorated with incised foliate, floral and geometric designs tied with a sash at the waist, floral and signed mark -- 7in. (17.8cm.) high; and an ivory carving of a man on his knees, his body extended forward beside a wooden box and his mouth wide open in fright of a rat on his back, signed red tablet, 19th century. (2)
