Woodcut device on title, 4 large woodcut illustrations in the text (slight printing flaw on title with partial loss of date, tiny hole in K5, very lightly browned throughout). 19th-century green hardgrained morocco-backed boards (corners rubbed).
Second edition of the erudite Spaniard Chacon's interesting work on the convivial and banqueting habits of the Romans. The author, a friend and correspondent of Baronius, de Thou, Casaubon and others, was charged by Gregory XIII to re-edit the Bible, the entire patristic writings and Gratian's Decretals.
