Kim graduated from Hong Ik University in Seoul in 1978. Since 1978 he has had numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Korea, Japan, the United States and Europe. He had one-person exhibitions at the Fine Arts Center, Seoul, in 1988, at the Park Ryu-Sook Gallery, Seoul, in 1999, 2000 and 2002, at the Johyun Gallery, Busan, in 2003, and at the Korean Art Company Gallery, Seoul, in 2005. Kim's work is in the collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, Sung Gok Museum, Seoul, Hong Ik University Museum, Seoul, and the Fredrick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles.
