Depicted facing left above a musical trophy, in a Louis XVI style blue-painted and giltwood frame and inscribed 'CHINARD A CHENARD', the reverse with paper labels inscribed ' Collection Gabriel Cognacq', 'Chenard par Chinard', '15' and '12A'

Lot Essay

Simon Chenard (1758-1832) was a celebrated singer and actor. The identical relief was acquired by the Louvre from the collection of the Comte de Penha-Longa on 12 December 1911.
