Lot Essay

The present runner, like others in the yellow-ground Konya group, uses the juxtaposition of very strong blocks of colour and fleecy soft wool to create a dramatic effect. The closed Memling guls within each hooked panel are more obviously seperated with different colour combinations and patterns. Two examples with similar ornamentation in double rather than single columns are illustrated in Murray L. Eiland Jr. & Murray Eiland III; Oriental Carpets, A Complete Guide, Belgium, 1998, pl.165-166, p.192.
