Lot Essay

Erzurum prayer kilims have been divided into two different styles known as the ciddi and the canli (Peter Davis, Antique kilims of Anatolia, Hong Kong, 1993, p.103, pl.72 and 73). The present lot falls within the former of these groups. An extremely similar example in both design and colouring to our kilim was sold at Rippon Boswell, Wiesbaden, 17 May 2003, lot 24A.
