Lot Essay

The French Air Force commissioned Breguet in 1954 to manufacture an aviator's chronograph based on their original 1935 wrist-chronograph. There were three generations of the "Type XX" produced with the present watch from the second generation made during the 1970s and 1980s. The watch has the characteristic raised bezel and squared strap holders. A similar watch "Type XX" is illustrated and described in Breguet: Watchmakers Since 1775, ed. E. Ducamp, pp. 358 and 364.
