AN ABBASID POLYCHROME LUSTRE POTTERY BOWL
MESOPOTAMIA, 9TH CENTURY
Of rounded form with everted rim on short foot, the pale tin glaze painted with brown and green lustre glaze forming a wreath-like pattern surrounding a central roundel of dotted motifs along a series of stylised kufic letters, bold lobed pattern around the rim, the exterior decorated with two diagonal rows of deliberate splashes of brown lustre, repaired breaks, one area of restoration
8¼in. (21cm.) diam.
