Of rounded form with everted rim on short foot, the interior painted in brown and green lustre with a central highly stylised palmette flanked by four areas of alternating dotted and hatched patterns, the exterior with bold chevron motifs, repaired breaks

Lot Essay

Although the palmette takes a somewhat different form, with four distinct leaves as opposed to the one of this piece, this bowl bears some resemblence to a brown and yellow example in the Metropolitan Museum, published in Arthur Lane's Early Islamic Pottery (London, 1957, Plate 10A).
