Lot Essay
Believed to be one of about nine recorded flat lids with portraits of William III alone, it can be compared with one in the V & A by the maker T.C. illustrated by Anthony North in Pewter at the Victoria and Albert Museum, No.66, and two in the Colonial Williamsburg, Nos. 236-37 by John Donne of James I and by William Eddon of William III.
