With an octagonal base and unusual circular drip-pan rising to a ribbed stem and octagonal sconce, the rims cast with rope-work decoration, the initials 'BY' engraved on foot and with a worn touchmark

There are a number of candlesticks of this basic form each of slightly different design and generally dated to after the Restoration of Charles II. Very few have a circular drip-tray, most being octagonal but refer to Gadd, Pewter candlesticks P.S, 2004, figs PRP01-03 on page 62. for discussion of this candlestick and two similar.
This candlestick was previously sold Sotheby's 25th April, 1985 lot 67. It was found with a saucer lot 115 in a locked chest and has similarities in the style of the rim.
