Lot Essay

A pair of related Regency rosewood caned stools with concave fronted seats was sold anonymously, Sotheby's, New York, 16-17 April 1998, lot 859 ($27,600). The reeded tapering leg is a leitmotif found throughout Gillows' manufacture of the early 19th century.
