The funnel bowl with a large wine barrel surrounded by seven bacchic children disporting themselves, one urinating, under the later diamond-engraved inscription 25 October 1872. P.C.F. Brunings. Munster Tafel, set on an annular knop, the hexagonal-section shouldered stem enclosing an elongated tear, domed and folded foot

Lot Essay

The meaning of the later inscription is unclear. It may commemorate a meeting of the 'Munster Tafel' (a conviviae society) in 1872 whereby the treasurer P.F.C. Brunings (1819-1881) from Zutphen received this goblet as a token of consideration.
