Lot Essay

This picture is of great interest in Swanzy's oeuvre as a lively and touching portrait of a child. She gives attention to the round, healthy face of the baby, with blue eyes and pink lips. She paints his white clothing against a pale ultra-marine background, leaving the lower part of the canvas more bare. The baby boy has a strong face with blue eyes, pink rosebud mouth, and hair swept back from his forehead. He holds a red toy in his hand, and he wears a white dress with attractive blue stripes around it.
