Jean-Bertrand Pegot-Ogier was educated in Concarneau in the pure academic tradition, and it was Henry Moret who first introduced him to the Pont-Aven aesthetics. The simplified forms and the picturesque subject of this Jeune bretonne allongée perfectly embody Pegot-Ogier's mastery of both painting styles. While it is not a pure synthetist work, the composition is indeed structured with lines defining the various planes and comprised of juxtaposed, contrasting colours.
