An unsigned astrolabe from Marrakesh
circa 1800
composed of brass, the throne is roughly triangular and undecorated. The rete bears 24 star-pointers and the design is in the standard Maghribi tradition. The mater is engraved for latitude 31°30', serving Marrakesh. There are altitude circles for each 3° and azimuth circles for each 10°, as well as special curves for the daytime prayers (zuhr and 'asr). There are no plates and none were planned. The upper half of the back is engraved with a double universal horary quadrant, and the lower half with a double shadow square for base 12 on each side
