細節
An Indian astrolabic plate with inscriptions in Sanskrit,
[?] 19th Century
The rete is of the standard late Indian design with about 20 star-pointers. The plate is engraved with altitude curves for each 2° and azimuth curves for each 6°, and the underlying latitude is approximately that of the Tropic of Cancer. The upper left of the back is engraved with a square orthogonal grid for trigonometric calculations, and the upper right with an empty solar quadrant (the technique of engraving curves for solar meridian altitudes had been forgotten, not least because for latitudes in India the curves are problematic). The shadow squares below the horizontal diameter are for bases 12 (left) and 7 (right).
28.2cm. (11 1/8in.)
