The Laughing Buddha is a jovial deity especially recognised and appreciated by many. He represents auspicious thought and values central to all aspects of Chinese life and culture. The presence of his symbol is believed to invite blessings of harmony, happiness, prosperity and wealth. The God's benevolent nature, open-heartedness and generosity also mean that he is regularly sought for riches and wealth. And according to folklore, bestowing good fortune and luck to all who rub his protruding belly.

The opaque pale green material with a matt finish and bright green streaks and patches, very well carved as a laughing buddha with an ample belly in the sitting position and leaning on his hempen bag, symbolising wealth and prosperity, holding a ruyi scepter in one hand, representing the rebus 'as your heart desires', in the other hand, holding a lotus leave scetper with a child climbing on his shoulder, representing the rebus 'lian sheng gui zi' or 'may you have many precious sons', a hat behind his head with a lingzhi, symbolising longevity, to the wooden stand, carving approximately 21.0 x 21.5 x 11.0 cm, stand approximately 22.5 x 11.0 cm
With report no. KJ 21779 dated 23 March 2007 from the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory stating that the carving is natural jadeite and no polymer is detected
