The Book of Common Prayer. London: Thomas Newcomb, and Henry Hills, 1710. 2° (380 x 240mm). Additional engraved title, ruled in red throughout (lacks Yy1, 6 leaves re-margined, one of which replaced the wrong way round, erased inscription on bottom of title, some leaves browned or spotted, a few margins lightly waterstained). Contemporary dark green morocco, bound possibly by Robert Steel (for a similar binding see Maggs catalogue 1075, no.117 and catalogue 1212, no.70), sides pannelled in gilt, gilt COAT-OF-ARMS OF QUEEN ANNE with her cypher in corners, gilt ornaments on each side of outer panel, made up of drawer-handels, fleurons, lines, dots and other small tools, spaces in between gilding richly decorated in blind with the same tools, such as acorns, thistles, a rose tool, etc., spine with raised bands, divided into 7 compartments, decorated in gilt and each with the Royal cypher (extremities rubbed, head of spine a little chipped, foot of spine skilfully repaired and foot

A RARE AND ATTRACTIVE BINDING. Only a few decorated bindings for Queen Anne have survived.
