Lot Essay

Such large Longquan celadon censers are very rare.
A similar example of same shape, although less elaborated and of 30.5 cm diameter, is illustrated in Chinese Celadons and Other Related Wares in Southeast Asia, Southeast Asian Ceramics Society, Singapore 1979, pp.250-251, pl.201.
A much smaller one of 25.1 cm wide but similarly shaped, with openwork decorations is illustrated in A Special Exhibition of Incense Burners and Perfumers Throughout the Dynasties, National Palace Museum, Taipei 1994, p.164, pl.21.
