LANFREDINI, Giovanni (1437-1490). Autograph letter signed ('Giovan Lanfrdini') to Giuliano de' Medici, [Venice], 21 October 1471, sending compliments on his own behalf as on behalf of 'lo spagnuolo v[os]tro Il quale studia s[er]virvi co[n] som[m]a diligenza', sending a diplomatic report including news of a gathering of '400 chavalli', one page, oblong 4to (some discolouration), integral address panel ('Magnifico v. Giuliano dimedici maiore hon. Flore.', with papered seal, endorsed on receipt ('Da Vinegia nel 22 di octobre'); tipped onto card.
Giuliano de' Medici was effectively co-ruler of Florence with his brother Lorenzo il Magnifico from 1469 until his assassination in the Pazzi conspiracy in 1478. Giovanni Lanfredini served Florence in a number of diplomatic capacities, being ambassador in Venice, Naples and Rome. A trusted representative of the Medici, he acted as their agent in cultural and artistic matters as well as in affairs of state.
