A warrant requiring the Clerk of the Cheque at the royal dockyard at Chatham to allow ten seamen to enter on board the yacht, Lennox, 'lately borrowed by his Ma[est]y of his Grace ye Duke of Richmond'. As soon as the vessel is ready, Pepys and his fellow Principal Officers of the Navy Board, or the yacht's commander, are to send the ten men, 'the whole complement allowed her for this expedition on which shee is designed ...'

Pepys had been appointed Clerk of the Acts at the Navy Board in 1660; his diary entry for 8 September 1668 recorded, 'I received two letters from the Duke of Richmond about his Yacht, which is newly taken into the King's service, and I am glad of it, hoping hereby to oblige him and to have occasions of seeing his noble Duchess, which I adore'.
