Dom François BEDOS DE CELLES (1706-1779). Autograph letter signed ('D. Bedos') to [Auguste-Denis] Fougeroux de Bondaroy (at the Royal Academy of Science), St-Denis, 3 April 1772, returning Bondaroy's 'art du coutelier' [his treatise on surgical instruments] and advising him to have the plates improved, 'le public s'en prend toujours a l'autheur quand il voit de mauvaises gravures', 1½ pages, 4to, address leaf, seal;

and letters by Marie-François-Xavier Bichat (anatomist and physiologist, to Xavier Giraud, n.d., about the recipient's family, one page, 4to), Marie-Anne Victoire Boivin (midwife, 22 March 1834, reporting her examination of a patient, 2 pages, 4to), Louis Odier (Swiss surgeon, 22 October 1813), Dr Franz-Joseph Gall (founder of phrenology, a prescription including cinammon), Dr Johann Gaspar Spurzheim (Gall's disciple and proselytiser), and Antoine-Emile Blanche (two to the Countess of Castiglione and one other, 1865-1878, one on the death of his son, taking comfort at his having been spared the siege of Paris and the Commune).
