A EUROPEAN FIGHTING AXE; AND A GERMAN WOODSMAN'S OR EXECUTIONER'S AXE, IN 16TH CENTURY STYLE
The first, the head 14th/15th Century; the second 19th Century
The first with flat blade with convex cutting edge flattened at the base and rounded over the top, large oval socket, and on an early wooden haft reinforced by an iron strap along the back (the bottom of the haft incomplete and worm damaged); the second with heavy angular blade with straight cutting edge, tubular socket, and on a modern haft.
