AN ITALIAN CUP-HILT RAPIER, IN THE STYLE OF CIRCA 1670
19th Century
With long slender blade of stiff-diamond section changing to flattened- hexagonal section at the forte, cut with a deep fuller on both sides and inscribed 'PEDRO COELLER EN SOLINGEN' on one side and 'MI SINAL SON LES ARMAS DEL RE' on the reverse, iron hilt comprising a pair of slender spirally fluted chiselled quillons with moulded button terminals, knuckle-guard en suite, a pair of arms carrying a cup guard pierced and chiselled with flowers, leaves, birds and antique figures, pierced guardopolvo, openwork pommel en suite with the hilt, and moulded wire-bound grip with 'Turk's heads'.
