A FINE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOL FOR THE TURKISH MARKET
Early 19th Century
With tapering barrel formed with a short flat with chiselled and gilt terminal, damascened with an arrangement of gold flags and foliage at the breech, a gold palm spray at the silver sight and the tang damascened en suite, gilt vent, bevelled lock decorated with further engraved and gold-damascened designs of scrolling foliage involving a ribbon cut with the maker's signature 'Isma'il Shahni', gold-lined rainproof pan, roller, figured walnut full stock, the grip and fore-end cut with chequered panels inset with minute silver nails, inset with engraved narrow strips of silver over the length of the fore-end and as a frame on both sides at the lock, further small silver plaques and wire scrollwork of neo-Eastern design, domed silver pommel centering on a gold oval, engraved silver trigger-guard and fore-end cap, and no provision for ramrod.
