Edo period (17th century), signed Dewa nyudo Taishin Hokkyo Minamoto Mitsuhira and with chrysanthemum crest
Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri, iori mune, shallow curve, blade narrowing in Kanbun style, chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: tightly packed ko-itame mixed with masame, pale midare utsuri
Hamon [tempering pattern]: choji midare with o-choji and gunome, ashi and yo in nioi
Boshi [tip]: komaru
Nakago [tang]: slightly curved, ha-agari kurijiri, sujigai file marks, one peg
Habaki [collar]: double, gilt-copper
Nagasa [length from start of tempered edge to tip]: 27 7/8in. (70.8cm.)
Koshirae comprising a black-lacquer saya, hilt wrapped with black-lacquered ray skin wrapped in leather, mokko iron Owari tsuba pierced with four flaming Buddhist jewels, Ko-Goto school mitokoromono of shakudo with chrysanthemum and other flowers in high relief, shakudo and silver-gilt inlay, matching gold and shakudo fuchi-gashira carved in high relief with oak branches, leaves and acorns; tsuba, 17th century, the mitokoromono, 16th century
With a certificate of registration designating this sword as the 24th Juyo token (Important sword), no. 5767, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated 1976.7.10
