Lot Essay

This is an exceptionally large bronze for the period. Compare with a Central Javanese bronze figure of Tara at the Museum Nasional, Jakarta, similarly placed on a double-lotus pod base, see J. Fontein, The Sculpture of Indonesia, 1990, cat. no. 44, p. 192.
