The inscription reads: al-'izz wa al-iqbal wa al-dawla wa al-'afiya wa al-qana'a wa al-baqa [li-sah]hibihi (glory, prosperity, wealth, health, God's grace and long life to the owner).

This jug is of a well known type, many examples of which have appeared on the market. A number of features however make it stand out against most examples of this design. There are various extra details in the shape, notably the treatment of the foot. Most impressive is the decoration which is far more extensive and detailed than that which is normally found on these jugs.
