This vessel is of a type which is well attested in the western parts within the Islamic world, for example a magnificent example in the British Museum made in Damascus between 1264 and 1279 (Ward, Rachel: Islamic Metalwork, London, 1993, pl.87, p.110). This appears however to be the earliest example to be published from further east.
