Le vigneron ist ein wichtiges Werk innerhalb des Oeuvres von Ernest Biéler. Um 1910 entstanden, stammt es aus der Serie 'Types de Savièse', aus welcher Christie's bereits im Dezember 2005 den Homme de Savièse von 1909 erfolgreich verkaufen konnte. 'Types de Savièse' ist eine von Biéler gewählte Bezeichnung für seine in Savièse bei Sitten entstandenen Bauernbildnisse, wo sich der Künstler 1889 niedergelassen hatte. Die lineare Klarheit, der kühn gewählte Bildausschnitt sowie die bewusst gewählte dekorative Einfachheit sind für die Serie kennzeichnend.
